His Excellency Dr Obaid Al Ketbi, a former Military-General, Expert in Homeland Security & management, as well as an Academic Scholar.
He was appointed as Assistant Minister of Military and Security Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation from February 2019 until June 2020, Dr. Obaid Al Ketbi was the UAE Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Australia and non-resident Ambassador to Vanuatu, Samoa and Solomon Islands of the Pacific Islands (2015-2018). He was a Member of the Executive Council of the Government of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi (2008-2014).
Prior to his appointment as Ambassador in August 2015, His Excellency Dr. Obaid Al Ketbi was the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police in charge of Homeland Security and a member of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, (2008 – 2014).
His distinguished service record over 39 years to the UAE Armed Forces started when he graduated from Zayed Military Academy in 1977, and had a track record rising to the rank of Major-General.
He took leading roles in this field, including the Chief of Logistics Staff (2006-2008), Commander of the UAE Humanitarian Aid Operations in the Iraq War (2003). Coordinator of Demining in Lebanon (2001), and Commander of the UAE Humanitarian Aid Forces in Albania/Kosovo (1999).
Along with these, HE was the Chairman of the Executive Board and Spokesperson for the globally renown "International Defence Exhibition and Conference (IDEX)" from its inception in 1993 to 2015. Chairman of the International Exhibition for National Security and Resilience (ISNR).
In addition, HE was a Chairman of the Exchange of Information and Integration of National Security, Abu Dhabi, Chairman of the National Security Committee on Weapons, Ammunition and Explosives, member of the Standing Committee on Crisis and Disaster management and Member of the International Anti-Terrorism Committee of the World Economic Forum.
Ambassador Dr. Al Ketbi was a Chairman of the Committee on Deportation of Violators of National Security; Chairman of the, Board of Directors, Al Taif Company, Chairman of the Archery Association of the United Arab Emirates, and Member of the Supreme Committee for the award of HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Women's Sports, and a member of the Family Development Foundation, Abu Dhabi.
HE holds a PhD in International Transfer and Anchorage of Technology in the UAE, from the University of London. He also hold a BBA,MBA in Business Administration from the University of South-Eastern, Washington, United States; MSc in National Resource Management Strategy from the National Defence University (NDU) Washington, United States; as well as, BSc, MSc in Electronic Engineering from the University of Paris VI – France.
Ambassador Al Ketbi, has a strong interest in academic research and has published in various fields. He also has passionate interest and participates actively and enthusiastically in many sports including marathon, cycling, hiking, long walk and archery.
